Question from a Reader: My wife no longer respects me after 7 years of marriage what can I do to get her to respect me again? Answer: The easy answer is to tell you to file for divorce and walk out of her life forever. At a certain point after you leave and are no longer in contact with her she will respect you even if you don't know it. Yet, we both know you aren't going to do that and if you could do it you wouldn't be asking me for advice. Truth is you must ask yourself at least these three questions before you can know the answer to your question.

1. What is important to you about having your wife's respect? This is an important question because many times it isn't "respect" you are after rather it is to get her to do or stop doing something.

2. Has she just recently begun no longer respecting you or has there been a lack of respect for a long time in the relationship? Bottom line with this question is the longer she has been in the habit of disrespecting you the greater the challenge in getting her to respect you again.

3. What are you willing to risk in order to regain her respect? If you aren't willing to risk losing a relationship in which you feel or perhaps even know that you are being disrespected then do you really think you can earn her respect back?

Whenever she first began disrespecting you that was the moment you are going to let her know as such and if it continues the only option you really have is to end the relationship. Otherwise you are a man who doesn't respect himself and no woman should respect that kind of man.
